the inconvenient truth

yesterday was earth day, 22nd April. so HBO put the famous documentary "the inconvenient truth", i saw it for one reason because many people told me to. man i am glad i did. not only the documentary is fabulous but also,i cannot believe what we have been subjecting our planet to. our one and only home. the exponential rise of temperatures and increasing number of natural calamities, the population pressure, i cannot go on with the horrors of the situation. for that you must see "the inconvenient truth". i admire mr.al gore for this, a lot.

i made up my mind last night. i am going to be a little more eco-friendly each day! no more plastic bags, its time to finally use my paper bag collection. switching of lights in the rooms where it isnt required. and no more switching AC unless absolutely required. no more littering. let me just start with little things, then I'll take steps further, because in the words of mr.gore, what we take for granted today will not be around for generations to come unless we do something.

this should help...do visit them.

home sweet home!

when you become friends with someone it is a natural ice breaker to ask where he/she lives, so when i get the question, i usually answer sion. (its not a lie mind you, chunabhatti is a part of sion (which is in mumbai,India for all the dumb people)). so yeah i stay in chunabhatti lovingly called chunnu by me! and now after years of living and cribbing about it, i have fallen in love with the place i live in.

lets face it where else in mumbai is there a place from where 2 national highways are walking distance, and it takes 20 minutes to both new mumbai AND vt! not to mention it is almost the geographical center of mumbai. plus Wikipedia even has an entry for it! doesn't matter if its just 3 lines long! so if Wikipedia says it exisits then yes it does.

so the other day i was talking to my cousin, he had a funny story to tell. his cousin (maternal) was supposed to visit him in chunnu. so he told him to take a ric from the suburbs. poor guy, instead of chunabhatti he happened to say chuparpati. the smart ric fellow dropped him off at Dharavi! now Nilay bhai had a task of finding him, and the only thing he knew was that cousin was near a slum. now only if he knew, whole Dharavi is a freaking slum!

stories aside. let me tell you the best part of being a chunnu-ite. we have a bus depot, a train station AND a rickshaw/taxi stand. ha! plus an authentic gaon type market with old aunties fighting et al. And for the religious people, there also happens to be a 100 yr old jain temple.

other random trivia courtesy wikipedia:

Chunabhatti is a suburb of Mumbai. It is also the name of a railway station on the Mumbai suburban railway on the Harbour line.

Chunabhatti (Chuna - lime, bhatti - kiln) is home to the first cotton mill in Mumbai (Bombay), which was registered in 1886 as 'Swadeshi Mills' by late Jamshedji Tata.

in search of heaven

WARNING:ok this is going to be a little philosophical so people not interested can take a hike.

everyone is looking for their piece of heaven. you me everybody. for some people heaven is being rich/successful, for some its finding recognition, while for some it is finding someone to share their life with. but they don't know the truth which i, dare say, have realized is not about all this, but is about enjoying your own self. being happy with who you are and not try being someone else.

i know my knowledge about the world is quite little, almost minuscule, but nevertheless i would make this statement. i maybe idealist and i know by the end of this i will have 5000 people telling me, "honey its not how it works" but I'll take my chances.

let me tell you how it works. see basic idea is if you can be happy with yourself you can be happy always. one very wise guy (you know who u are!) told me "cause of all evil is desires" but still we don't stop desiring.
we desire to be happy, we desire to be beautiful, we desire to be envied but somewhere we stop being ourselves. And that, my friend, is "evil"

so instead of preaching you lots of stuff i will just tell you to be happy with yourself. there is nothing wrong with you. you are who you are, God intended you to be the way you are. make a point everyday to stop and look at your beautiful reflection on the mirror every morning and tell yourself how special you are and the world is incomplete without you! trust me your days will go awesome!

now i'll cut my philosophy short, in case any of you want more of this..feel free to contact me. i can go on and on and on (on this topic at least!)
